9-19+20-09, Makato, Honoring the 38

Makato Wacipi.
From great tragedy...a slow healing.

The largest mass execution in the history of the US occurred on December 26th 1862 in Mankato, MN. Thirty eight Dakota men were hanged. Not many Americans (or even Minnesotans) have much of an awareness of this. For the past 37 years, there has been a pow wow in the Mankato area to remember and shed light on this history, and to honor the ones who were killed.
The area is called "Mah-Kah-Toe" by the Dakota. Maka=Earth, To=Blue. Blue Earth.
